Culture & Values

What is the role of culture and values in workplace productivity?

Culture & Values

How does it affect the work place? Is there such a thing as undesired behavior? or ill-mannered, fussy people who are difficult to get along with?

In the workplace, positive and productive working relationship between employees is a critical factor of success. The success of a company all boils down to how well employees work together.

Why are culture and values important in the workplace?

Culture and values permeate every aspect of our lives, from what we eat, where we vacation, who we hire and fire, what we do in our spare time, and even how we run our business.

There are two schools of thought regarding culture: a beneficial and negative one.

The positive side is that cultural differences give us a more diverse perspective in the workplace which can only improve productivity due to its varied ideas. It can also help break down silos and enable better collaboration.

On the negative side, cultural differences can lead to miscommunication and misunderstanding which in turn may lead to an inefficient work environment because people are too busy feeling offended than doing their job.

Employees form a certain culture within a workplace based on their values that they find important. Through this, they create a group identity that defines the way they interact and with the rest of the organization. This identity is crucial in determining how a company will operate since employees usually tend to support this particular culture because it aligns with their personal values as well.

Cultural ties are formed within an organization when people share common interests. If you get a group of people together who enjoy working hard, they form a culture with high work ethics. Then, if you hire people who enjoy working hard as well, these new employees contribute to the overall production of the company and its growth.

This is important in any organization because it enables better results from individual efforts when grouped together.
