Cohesion

Cohesion can be linked with leadership and organisation culture.

Cohesion

The Initiative Of Cohesion is a factor where all the departments of an organisation are working to achieve a common goal and are required to come together in order to work as one team with unity, motivation and success.

Cohesion in an organisation can be described as the way of working and performance levels, when every member is working hard in order to achieve individual goals for the good of the team. It also includes organisational values, staff engagement, learning culture and trust.

In our modern society today, we may find many examples where there is a lack of cohesion:

• Within the UK government, many supporters from all parties have lost faith in it and do not believe that Britain is well-managed.

Cohesion can be linked with leadership and organisation culture. Studies show that there is an association between lack of cohesion and lower motivation levels. This inevitably affects job satisfaction and commitment to the organisation.

• Total non-productive time is the degree to which employees do not work because they are idle or engaged in activities that have no impact on productivity. This has a high negative correlation with employee motivation and satisfaction with their organisation.

There are also many factors that promote cohesion:

• Working environment : If the team members can be comfortable, cooperative and are in a good mood when they come to work, this is an environment that will promote efficient teamwork.

• Purpose : It is important to know what the team you belong to trying to achieve in order for it to be cohesive; and everyone must share a common goal.

• Activity : Activities should always engage all members of the team.

• Reward : It is important for management to recognise team efforts and give feedback in return, by providing incentives or bonuses.

This will promote teamwork within an organisation as well as improving motivation levels.
